Main Character Analysis

Introducing My Main Character

Main Character Details:

  • Physical Characteristics
Since I will be playing my main character (also the only character of the film) it will be focused around my features. But the film isn't necessarily about what the main character looks like but about how she feels when under the influence and needing that high again. The first scene will most likely have me with a high ponytail with wavy curls and the following scene might have the same hairstyle or another with shoulder length curls. Along with this, in the second scene, the character will have much baggy clothing hiding her body shape. Her mannerism in the scene with the flower field will be shown to emphasize a relaxed, careless, and dreamy nature. While the scene in the drug store will accentuate the character's mannerism as those resembling urgency and routine activities. This is to portray a sense of dull, drab and a rush for the character to catch her next "fix".

  • Costuming
As discussed in the previous blog, the desired wardrobe will be two sets of outfits. On will be a bright orange dress and the next will be dull colored oversized clothing. Theses outfits are meant to contrast with each other, presenting a different mood in the audience. The first scene with the orange dress should be elegant and ethereal and the drug store outfit needs to be realistically muted and dark.

  • Props
The major props involved in my film will be seen during the first scene. The first scene resembles my main character in a field of flowers on a white blanket. The props will be picked flowers (with and without stems), the white blanket, a flower crown, and a small gold necklace. The second scene will involve me holding a prescription orange pill bottle. In this drug store location I will also be using the store's shelves as my props, rushing to grab several over the counter medications; Including, Advil, Tylenol, and other pain reliever pills.

Character's Personality, Motivations, and Mental State:

My main character's personality and communication style in the very first scene will be one of a relaxed state, happy, energetic, and calm. This character will be surrounded by flowers to symbolize life, she will be wearing a bright orange dress with the sun beaming down on her. This is to push toward the audience of the character's light and airy atmosphere. Since I'm more likely not going to use any dialogue, I will be conveying my character's personality and mental state through her surroundings, props, and clothes. The last scene will have my character in a drug store, not a place with a lot of energy, the portrayal is meant to seem and dull and lifeless, this is the scene where the character snaps back to reality. Overall, her true mental state is very unstable. She needs drugs to feel weightless and in a sort of dreamland, but the second scene will uncover her hurried movements and drab atmosphere when she is anxious to receive more medication. Her main motivation in this film will be drugs and the abusing of over counter medications like pain relievers. This motivation is the result of wanting to feel "free".
