Comparing Camera Shots!
My Classmates' Blogs
Two of the blogs I commented on:
- Blogger Girl by Nicole Lastra-Rodriguez
- Daniel's Media Studies Blog by Daniel Yanes
Starting off with Nicole's, Blogger Girl posts, she was able to evoke a strong theme that pays homage to the popular t.v. show, Gossip Girl. While her blog's theme incorporated heavy aspects of creative city aesthetics, Nicole's camera shots were well thought out as well. I felt as though her camera angles were precisely taken to captivate the overall tone for each video. And while it was not mandatory, each of her videos were able to correlate extremely well with one another. I especially liked the way she was able to capture suspenseful tones with the extreme close up frame and the two shot video. In the article of each of these videos she, in detail explains the purpose behind the angles. Where some, like the extreme close up symbolize a scary atmosphere as the audience is focused on the characters dilating eyes. While other videos such as the two shot, were more depressing and sad, the audience sees a character comforting another who appears to be in a depressive state. Overall, the camera shots and angles for each of Nicole's videos were thoughtfully and carefully designed.
Next, I commented on Daniel's, Daniel's Media Studies Blog posts. Daniel's video shots were simple and strategic. The short clips allowed the audience to grasp the narratives intended while using props and a character. The first video listed of a close shot of a character writing on a piece of paper. This shot allows the audience to hone on the idea of the setting, and from context clues we are able to recognize that this might be at school by using this shot that emphasizes greater detail. Daniel was able to incorporate effective angles into each video while also leaning into a comedic theme, as we see the character lying on a school bench and in another clip we see him leaning against the looking into the vast courtyard in deep thought. This specific blog post is done well and with great precision to accurately obtain the necessary information in a few second video.
My Shots Compared to Their Shots:
Viewing multiple of my fellow classmates blogs and video samples, I've noticed that some of my videos could have executed my intended goal for them more thoughtfully by perhaps adding a couple more seconds to each video. My videos fall flat a little bit compared to others I believe since some of them, for instance the high angle shot, is a mindless walk through on the screen. Without the description, viewers might not understand the purpose.
However, I am still very proud in my videos as I was able to capture great detail and effective camera angles. The first clip of the vibrant orange flower bed is done well in my opinion, the camera carefully glides through the greenery soaking in the extreme detail. Each one of the presented shots were able to complete the tasks of trying out camera angles. With practice I will continue to do better.
