My Mood Board: Opening Sequence Film
Mood Board
Main Idea of Mood Board:
The main idea that I am trying to capture in the mood board above is a feeling of a euphoric dream compared to a gritty and realistic world. Since the genre of my opening sequence is going to be focused primarily around teen drama, my film will be heavily influenced by drug usage and how addiction can cripple and warp a person's mental well being. The mood board is meant to display a light and airy feeling on one side, this side would be the dream world my main character dwells in while under the influence. The other side of the mood board focuses on the reality the main character lives in, it's dreary, dark, and dull; this side is meant to be a reflection of the main character's depressed state of mind, she feels trapped in this grim world, pressured to feel some relief she escapes to an ethereal world through drug consumption.
Main Character:
My mood board proposes an idea that my main character lives in this sort of blissful daydream created by her mind. She is surrounded my meadows with overgrown grass and tall flower beds coated with a luscious lemon yellow. By adding several images of flowers in the mood board, this symbolism serves to promote the idea of fragility, life, and death. My main character is somewhat of a flower herself, she is fragile as she battles with drug use. Her reality is that she hides in the dark, and a flower in the dark cannot find the sun and she can't grow because of it. Half of my mood board has strong indications of yellow, which can symbolize happiness and cowardliness. The overall sense I want to portray to my audience about the main character is that she seeks happiness in the wrong places by using drugs.
Settings Breakdown:
The setting breakdown for my film involves two distinct locations. One location takes place in a field prospering with tall beds of flowers and the other location reflects a city at night, a feeling of dampness and colorlessness will be scene in the second location. My mood board showcases the various atmospheres I wish to create through the distinct two locations. The desired outcome would be to film location 1 in an open field with the sun at a point where it's near sunset to evoke a certain calming feeling into the audience. Location 2 can be filmed in the afternoon or when it is entirely dark outside in order to capture a bleak tone.
Costume Breakdown:
There is only one character in my opening sequence but there will be two filming locations. In location 1 the purpose is to attain a fanciful and heavenly ambience. This location will be filmed in a flower field or meadow of sorts so the desired custom would be a pure white dress that flows with the wind. Since white symbolizes purity I think this custom choice would be the best considering that this character is going to be prancing around an imaginary world that is pure to her but not real. She flees to this daydream through un-pure methods. The costume decision for location 2 is a simple black attire, nothing too specific, maybe a black hoodie or shirt. This piece would be drastically different compared to the one the audience will see in the first location.
Lighting Breakdown:
The lighting will be one of the major focuses in my film that will further the narrative to viewers. Each location is supposed to have an extreme contrast with one another. The first location the sun will serve as the key lighting, so the desired look would be one that is highlighted with high key lighting. Whereas in the second location low key lighting is something that is to be expected in order to appeal to that sense of dreariness.
Props Breakdown:
The mood board has emphasized the props I hope to introduce into my opening sequence. In location 1 the props I'm relying on are mostly flowers. The flowers growing from a meadow or field would be the main focus along with already picked flowers. The mood board also shows several weaved beige baskets, these would be used to carry the flowers essentially the camera would do many close up shots to emphasize the airy feeling. Location 2 is only going to have one prop as of right now, and that is going to be bright orange pill bottles to further the notion that my main character is struggling with substances.
